I NEWS I Samsung launches brand new products amid its catalogue of smart and sustainable innovations at IFA 2023 Foldable smartphones, AI-enabled washing machines, smart fridges, Starfield TV, solar-powered remotes, digital locks, and a special edition of The Frame to celebrate Disney's 100 th birthday. These are just some examples of the latest innovations Samsung unveiled during its press conference at its stand at the CityCube on Thursday. No seat was left empty at the invite-only event for media professionals, influencers and retail partners. Samsung immersed the audience in its opening video by injecting the room with artificial scents of fresh croissants and washing detergent while footage of its latest smart home appliances appeared on an enormous 787-inch Samsung TV screen. Narrating the Aero Engine Craft CEO Dr Sarah Qureshi: Transforming aerospace for good Ahead of her participation in the Innovation with impact: Transforming the world for good panel on Saturday 2 nd September from 2:10 pm to 3:10 pm, we spoke to Aero Engine Craft CEO Dr Sarah Qureshi about the impact of aviation on global warming and how her pioneering company aims to transform aerospace. video, Chief Marketing Officer for Samsung Europe Benjamin Braun highlighted new smart features such a built-in fridge camera, so users can see what they need to buy from the supermarket, and ovens with food recognition and burn detection. During the panel, Dr Qureshi said she plans to talk about "aviation induced global warming in the context of contrail emissions from aircraft during flight." To those who are unfamiliar with the word, contrails are the white lines that trail behind airplanes during flight. They contribute to global warming by creating artificial clouds that reflect heat back to the Earth. According to Dr Qureshi, contrails are the main cause of pollution during flights. "To date, there has been more focus on CO2 emissions, even though contrail emissions contribute five times more to global warming in the sky," she said. Aero Engine Craft is the first company to address this lesserknown cause of pollution. "Aero Engine Craft is the only company in the world developing a contrail mitigation hardware product to combat the effects of climate change due to aviation," Dr Qureshi added. New innovations in entertainment included Samsung's latest QD-OLED and Mini LED QLED TVs as well as its curved gaming monitors. Gamers at IFA will also have the chance to test Samsung's Starfield gaming hub which will launch after the end of the show next Wednesday. Players with a Samsung Smart TV do not need a PC or a games console to play the highlyanticipated game which is built into TV thanks to a partnership with Xbox. Another announcement made live from Samsung's IFA stage is that all its products will be Wi-Fi enabled and digitally connected under the company's SmartThings strategy. This means users will be notified on their Samsung Smartwatch, for example, if the fridge door is open and when the laundry is ready to unload. In further news, Mr Braun revealed images of Samsung's special edition of The Frame, an exclusive TV bezel designed to celebrate Disney's 100th birthday. Users can choose from 100 pieces of Disney art to display when their TV is switched off CityCube B / Stand 101 At the panel, the expert is hoping to raise awareness around the issue. "We all live under the same sky and everyone can benefit from this talk since it creates awareness around the problem," she commented. She also looks to reach "organisations who can work towards establishing regulations on jet engine exhaust emission and have the capacity to implement solutions in the industry." For Aero Engine Craft's CEO, the main takeaway from the panel should be the need to urgently tackle contrail emissions. "Just because they are hidden in the upper atmosphere, does not mean we can ignore them," she asserted hub 27 / Stand 253 IFA LEADERS SUMMIT Date: 2 nd September 2023 Location: Main Stage - HALL 21b INNOVATION WITH IMPACT: TRANSFORMING THE WORLD FOR GOOD > 2:25 - 3:35 p.m. IFA INTERNATIONAL • SATURDAY 2 ND & SUNDAY 3 RD SEPTEMBER 2023 5
