I NEWS

I NEWS IADVERTORIALRediscovering the joy of cooking -thanks to smart kitchen aidsDr Reinhard Zinkann, Executive Director and Co-Proprietor of Miele, explains new digital applications for the kitchen and how domesticappliances can be kept up to dateSmart kitchen aids are trending as they make many aspects of our lives easierfor us. We asked Dr Reinhard Zinkann whether his company is showcasinginnovations that may be trend-setters.Yes, absolutely. For a start, we are presentinga broad range of products once again thisyear: laundry care with Miele is becomingeven more sustainable and convenient. Interms of dishwashers, we are showcasingcompact appliances which focus on urbanliving in smaller apartments. What’s more, yourfavourite coffee now tastes even better thanksto Miele! I’m certainly seeing a megatrend in thekitchen: digitalisation is opening up fascinatingnew possibilities to enhance inspiration andenjoyment when cooking – and to this end, wehave some really exciting features in store! What are these specifically?Allow me to explain in a little more detail: sincethe start of the coronaviruspandemic, we have all beenspending more time at home– and in front of the cooker.Cooking with fresh ingredientsand trying out something newis very popular. Consequently,we have seen high demand forthe recipe database providedin the Miele app. However, ourown abilities in the kitchendo not always live up to ourexpectations! So the newassistance systems we areoffering for baking, frying andcooking can provide users witha helping hand and inspirationhere. What are these systems?Firstly, there is Smart Food ID. Here, the camerain the Miele oven identifies which dish I haveplaced in the oven, then all I have to do is confirmthis and it will be cooked fully automatically – withextremely reliable results, naturally. The secondassistance system is called Smart BrowningControl. It is our programme for cooking theperfect pizza and is also camera-assisted. Theoven monitors how the pizza browns to identifywhen it is done.DIGITALISATIONIS OPENING UPFASCINATINGNEWPOSSIBILITIESTO ENHANCEINSPIRATIONANDENJOYMENTWHEN COOKINGFinally, when frying with our new inductionhobs, we have developed CookAssist. Withassistance from our app, CookAssist guidesyou through the cooking process step by step, notifying you on your smartphone when thepan has reached the right searing temperature, for example. It also lets you know when thesteak needs to be turned in the pan so thatit is cooked exactly how you like it – whetherrare, medium or well done. In addition to steaks,CookAssist currently also helps with 14 otherrecipes, such as chicken curry, rösti or pancakes. And more recipes are constantly being added, also thanks to our cooperation with KptnCook,a highly successful and innovative start-up inthe cookery sector.Doesn’t this curb creativitysomewhat?Absolutely not. Experiencedcooks can work with ourappliances exactly howthey wish and set precisetemperatures within one degreeof accuracy. And this isn’t justthe case for ovens and hobs – italso applies to steam ovens andother combination appliancesfrom Miele. However, for thosewho are less experiencedin the kitchen or who don’twant to have to deal with allthe fine details of cooking thenew assistance systems are ahuge help. Not forgetting theinspiration factor: I’m much more likely to try outa new recipe if I know that it’s going to turn outwell thanks to Miele. I’m sure that lots of peoplewill rediscover the joy of cooking through thesedigital features. How many recipes have the digital aidsmastered?Altogether, several dozen at present. But this isjust the start. We are continually expanding therecipes offered.Dr Reinhard ZinkannExecutive Director and Co-Proprietor of Miele, sees great potential in new assistance systemsfor cookingSo would it be better if I waited until Miele hasmade a larger stock of recipes available? There’s no need to put off a purchase for thisreason. New applications and assistancesystems are added to our customers’ appliancesvia online updates. In practical terms, this meansthat a 60 cm Miele oven with camera purchasedin 2019 can be upgraded to include Smart FoodID in the coming year, and will then have morefunctions than when it was new. Our customerswill therefore always be able to benefit frombrand new developmentsIFA GLOBALPRESS CONFERENCEHall 1.2, 3.2, 4.2© Miele4 IFA INTERNATIONAL • SATURDAY 5 TH SEPTEMBER 2020www.ifa-international.org
