Priscilla Acquah Arhin
Priscilla woont in Gent, maar werd geboren in
Engeland in een Ghanees gezin. In haar kunst
gebruikt ze wax-print stoffen afkomstig uit Afrika.
Als artieste streeft ze ernaar om de verbinding
te leggen met zichzelf als artieste, haar gedachten,
haar uitdagingen. Zo hoopt ze dat haar
kunst in verbinding treedt met de toeschouwer.
Ze maakt gebruik van acryil verf. Haar huidige
collectie is gebaseerd op de West-Afrikaanse erfenis
van Ghana. Ze maakt gebruik van kente en
Ghanese stofpatronen opdat het traditionele op
de achtergrond kan doorschijnen. Zwart en wit
zijn sterk aanwezig in haar werken, ze worden
gebruikt als een expressief middel om beweging
en leven tot stand te brengen.
Priscilla is a West African artist born in England.
Currently based in Gent Belgium. Her art is aimed
for the prestigious individuals who appreciate the
west African influence with the use of cotton wax
printed fabrics from Africa. As an artist she hopes
to open doors into the artist herself, her thoughts,
her challenges, her joy and in return the art will be
connected with individuals who see or receive her
art work. Her work is painted using acrylic paint
in an expressive way promptly. In this current art
collection the work is based on west African heritage
from the country Ghana. Using traditional kente
and Ghanaian fabric patterns in background of the
paintings to bring forth not only colour but a sense of
history and tradition, to the paintings. Minimal colours
white and black are used as expressive tools to
show movement in the paintings and a form of life.
Junior Mthombeni
Junior Mthombeni (1972) is geboren en getogen
in Mechelen, maar heeft Zuid-Afrikaanse
wortels langs de kant van zijn vader. Die was
als verzetstrijder actief bij het ANC en kwam
in België terecht als politiek vluchteling. Junior
Mthombeni is theatermaker, acteur en muzikant.
De laatste jaren liet hij zich opmerken als
artistiek leider van het SINcollectief, met wie hij
felgesmaakte voorstellingen creëerde als Troost
(met het hiphopcollectief NoMoBS), Rumble in
da Jungle en Reizen Jihad. Zijn werk als regisseur
biedt een theatrale interpretatie van hete
hangijzers uit de actualiteit (bv. Syriëstrijders)
maar onderzoekt evengoed de hedendaagse betekenis
van inspirerende figuren, bewegingen
en evenementen uit het (recente) verleden. In
samenwerking met een multi-etnische cast vat
Mthombeni de grootstedelijke context in eigentijds
muziektheater, met invloeden van urban
arts en muziektradities uit alle windstreken.
Van jongs af stond hij ook zelf op de scène als
muzikant, zanger en acteur. Hij werkte o.a. met
Tone Brulin in de KNS en Alida Neslo bij De
Nieuwe Amsterdam, en trad jarenlang op met
bands als Afrobeat Association, El Tattoo Del Tigre,
African Jazz Pioneers en de Internationals.
Junior Mthombeni (1972) was born and raised in
Mechelen, but has South African roots along the
side of his father. His father was active as a resistance
fighter fot the ANC and came to Belgium
as a political refugee. Junior Mthombeni is a theater
maker, actor and musician. In recent years,
he was artistic leader of the SIN collective, where
he created highly acclaimed performances as Troost
(with the hiphop collective NoMoBS), Rumble in
da Jungle and Reizen Jihad. His work as a director
offers a theatrical interpretation of actual topics
from current affairs (eg Syria fighters), but also investigates
the contemporary meaning of inspiring
figures, movements and events from the (recent)
past. In collaboration with a multi-ethnic cast,
Mthombeni summarizes the metropolitan context
in contemporary music theater, with influences
from urban arts and musical traditions from all
over the world. From an early age he has been on
stage as a musician, singer and actor. He worked
with Tone Brulin in the KNS and Alida Neslo at De
Nieuwe Amsterdam, and performed for years with
bands like Afrobeat Association, El Tattoo Del Tigre,
African Jazz Pioneers and the Internationals.
