Kolonel Honorine, beter gekend als Maman Colonelle, werkt bij de Congolese politie in
Bukavu, waar ze verantwoordelijk is voor kinderbescherming en de strijd tegen seksueel geweld.
Na 15 jaar dienst wordt ze overgeplaatst naar Kisangani, een stad 650 km van Bukavu.
Daar moet ze haar levenswerk van nul opnieuw opbouwen en wordt ze geconfronteerd met
nieuwe uitdagingen en problemen. Via het portret van deze buitengewoon moedige vrouw,
die zich blijft inzetten voor gerechtigheid, kaart Maman Colonelle het probleem aan van
geweld tegen vrouwen en kinderen in DR Congo.
La Colonelle Honorine travaille au sein de la police congolaise où elle est chargée de la protection des
enfants et de la lutte contre les violences sexuelles. Alors qu’elle travaille depuis 15 ans à Bukavu, à l’est
de la RDC, elle apprend qu’elle est mutée à Kisangani. Sur place, elle se trouve face à de nouveaux enjeux.
À travers le portrait de cette femme d’un courage et d’une ténacité hors du commun qui lutte pour
que justice soit faite, le film aborde la question des violences faites aux femmes et aux enfants en RDC.
Colonel Honorine, more commonly known as “Mama Colonel”, works for the Congolese police force
and heads the unit for the protection of minors and the fight against sexual violence. Having worked for
15 years in Bukavu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, she is transferred to Kisangani.
There, she finds herself faced with new challenges. Through the portrait of this extraordinarily brave
and tenacious woman, who fights for justice to be done, this film addresses the issue of violence towards
women and children in the DRC and the difficulty of overcoming the past war.
