Burkina Faso, een klein, volledig ingesloten land in West-Afrika, heeft een erg levendige gemeenschap
van artiesten, muzikanten en geëngageerde burgers. Zij tonen aan hoe men kan
komen tot politieke verandering. Via muziek, film, ecologie, beeldende kunst en architectuur
zetten ze de revolutionaire gedachtegang van Thomas Sankara voort. Na het presidentschap
te hebben aanvaard in 1983, werd Sankara in 1987 vermoord in een staatsgreep onder
leiding van zijn beste vriend en adviseur Blaise Compaoré. Compaoré regeerde vervolgens
27 jaar lang het land als een echte autocraat. In oktober 2014 leidde een massale volksopstand
tot zijn verwijdering. De geest van verzet en politieke verandering is krachtiger dan
ooit in Burkina Faso. Een inspiratie, niet alleen voor Afrika, maar voor de hele wereld.

musicians, and engaged citizens, who provide an example of the type op political change that can be
achieved when people come together. Through music, film, ecology, visual art, and architecture, they
carry on the revolutionary spirit of Thomas Sankara. After assuming the presidency in 1983, Sankara
was killed in a 1987 coup d’état led by his best friend and close advisor Blaise Compaoré. Compaoré
subsequently ruled the country as an autocrat for 27 years. In October 2014 a massive popular insurrection
led to his removal. Today, the spirit of resistance and political change is mightier than ever in
Burkina Faso. An inspiration, not only to Africa, but to the rest of the world.
