3.8.7.3 Nettbasert støtte
Utover ønsket om selvstendig læring finner vi to begrunnelser for at et nettbasert
tilbud kan være spesielt nyttig. For det første gjør et nettbasert tilbud at kandidatene
kan få visualisert kompleksiteten i søkeprosessene.
Kandidaten i sitatet som følger foreslår helt konkret at en “video tutorial” ville
dekket dette behovet, og ville gitt bedre skreddersydd støtte enn det et vanlig
ansikt-til-ansikt-kurs kan tilby. Denne kandidatens innspill gir for øvrig et interessant
perspektiv på hvordan et nettbasert forskerstøttetilbud kan benytte seg av
ulike medier for å legge til rette for læring.
I think that I would like to see some practical example of search strategies
carried out. If you can follow search strategies, you can apply your own
strategy according to the strategy that you can see as an example. That
would be really helpful. And it should be a real strategy, not as a thought
example but an example that has complexity in it. Because that is a problem
when doing a standardized course in information management. […]Then it
is how to manage your search strategy. How to carry out a search strategy.
How do you manage the amount of information that you get? How do you
secure that you don’t find the same things a lot of times. You know, practical
information about how to do it. I think it could be really helpful. Having
a video tutorial : “how to do it”, then you would see how it’s done. That
would be a lot easier, because that kind of teaching would take a lot of time
if it was done by a person, but if you can access the information online, then
you can get it when you need it. I think that would be really helpful; source

For det andre kan nettbasert støtte styrke kommunikasjonen mellom ph.d.-kandidatene.
Det kan være med på å bygge opp den sosiale dimensjonen ved en
ph.d.-utdanning. Viktigheten av denne sosiale dimensjonen framheves av flere i
intervjuene: “Something that is important is the interaction with other people, in
real time or in the virtual” (Aalborg P7). Flere har konkrete forslag til hvordan
kommunikasjonen kan forsterkes, nemlig ved at det nettbaserte opplegget gir muligheter
for å bygge fellesskap:
[…] We should build some kind of community, […] to keep update is very
important and one person cannot do that. Everyone must help each other.
[…]So building a community and let them communicate with each other,
that is very important. (Aalborg P4)
