the analysis is statistical comparison of codes of ethics with basis documents and each
other.
Statistical comparison showed that basis documents where not considered significant
on drawing up codes of ethics and that disparity between codes of ethics is very high.
A result of this thesis is a list of recommended norms that is composed basing on
analysis of ethical norms in codes and on ethical norms incidence percentage. This list
should be used together with analysis of ethical norms. Other determined norms,
which can also be useful in composing codes of ethics, are presented in annex.
Other results are suggestions at international level and in Estonia. Most important
result of this thesis is a conclusion that possibly many translator's associations should
develop in cooperation a single code of ethics. Specific norms could be provided
when needed by every association in addition to single code. This conclusion is based
on results of analysis of codes, which showed a great discrepancy of codes and lack of
cooperation in this field. This conclusion is innovative and should contribute to the
evolution of translation ethics field.
There is no translator's code of ethics in Estonia and there are two translator's
associations without codes. Suggestion is to compose a single code of ethics in
collaboration of those associations. By composing a single code it is suggested to use
in both cases a list of recommended norms and an analysis of ethical norms.
Keywords: translation, ethics, basis documents, norms, code of ethics, translator's
associations.
