Ālakamandāya rājadhāniyā vatthuṁ vā vāsaṁ vā.<br />
in my royal city Ālakamandā, ground or dwelling.<br />
Na me so mārisa amanusso 1 labheyya<br />
That non-human being, dear Sir, would not be able<br />
yakkhānaṁ samitiṁ gantuṁ.<br />
to go to the gathering <strong>of</strong> the yakkhas.<br />
Api-ssu naṁ mārisa amanussā<br />
Further, dear Sir, non-human beings<br />
anavayham-pi naṁ kareyyuṁ avivayhaṁ.<br />
would not give or take him in marriage.<br />
Api-ssu naṁ mārisa amanussā<br />
Further, dear Sir, non-human beings<br />
attāhi pi paripuṇṇāhi paribhāsāhi paribhāseyyuṁ.<br />
would abuse him with very personal abuse.<br />
Api-ssu naṁ mārisa amanussā<br />
Further, dear Sir, non-human beings<br />
rittam-pi pattaṁ sīse nikkujjeyyuṁ.<br />
would drop an empty bowl over his head.<br />
Api-ssu naṁ mārisa amanussā<br />
Further, dear Sir, non-human beings<br />
sattadhā pissa muddhaṁ phāleyyuṁ.<br />
would split his head into seven pieces.<br />
Santi hi mārisa amanussā caṇḍā, ruddā, rabhasā,<br />
There are non-human beings, dear Sir, who are fierce, cruel, and violent,<br />
te neva Mahārājānaṁ ādiyanti,<br />
they do not take notice <strong>of</strong> the Great Kings,<br />
na Mahārājānaṁ purisakānaṁ ādiyanti,<br />
they do not take notice <strong>of</strong> the Great Kings’ men,<br />
na Mahārājānaṁ purisakānaṁ purisakānaṁ ādiyanti,<br />
they do not take notice <strong>of</strong> the Great Kings’ mens’ men,<br />
te kho te mārisa amanussā Mahārājānaṁ avaruddhā nāma vuccanti.<br />
and those non-human beings, dear Sir, are said to be in revolt against the Great Kings.<br />
Seyyathā pi mārisa rañño Māgadhassa vijite corā,<br />
Just as, dear Sir, there are thieves in the king <strong>of</strong> Magadha’s realm,<br />
te neva rañño Māgadhassa ādiyanti,<br />
who do not take notice <strong>of</strong> the king <strong>of</strong> Magadha,<br />
