Advice for swimming
The visit to the beach and to the water should hopefully
be a positive and safe experience! And it can be, if you
follow the Danish national Bathing Tips and only go into
the water, when conditions are appropriate.
• Never bathe on your own
• Bathe only where permitted
• Stop when the water is up to your waist
• Only swim parallel with the shore
(never away from it)
• Only dive in head first where the water is deep enough
• Never swim after drinking alcohol or taking euphoriainducing
substances
• Come out before you get cold
The North Sea can be rough and dangerous too, but if you
follow this advice and do try to judge the dept, the current
and the wind direction before entering the water, you can
certainly go bathing. If you doubt your own judgement
then ask the locals or the lifeguards, whether there is anything
you need to know, before you jump into the sea.
Beach Toys, boats and air mattresses are easily blown to
sea and they can be the start of a rescue action if other
people discover them and think that people are involved.
Never call HELP for fun and avoid dangerous games in
the water, such as pushing others, dunking each other in
the water, competing to see who can hold their breath the
longest or similar.
Keep an eye on children – in the water as well as on the
beach.
You can choose to go swimming where the life-guards
are, that is at the beach south in Hvide Sande and on
the beach in Søndervig just down from Badevej. The lifeguards
are at the beaches in the weeks 26-33, from the
24.th of june to the 16.th of august.2013.
