Ringkøbing Fjord

In der Nähe des Ortes liegt der Flughafen von Westjütland.
Er wird vor allem von Schul-, Taxi- und Privatflugzeugen
benutzt, aber hier befindet sich auch Dänemarks
Flugzeugmuseum mit einer interessanten Sammlung
von Veteranflugzeugen. Das älteste Flugzeug stammt von
1911, und im Sommer finden mehrmals Vorführungen mit
diesen Veteranflugzeugen statt. Außerdem werden auch
Rundflüge veranstaltet, auf denen man sich selbst von
oben einen besseren Überblick verschaffen kann.

The little harbour on the eastern side of Ringkøbing fjord is
peacefully situated by the low water, and life is practically
one with nature. This is perhaps why it’s said that boys
were given a hunting licence when they were baptised so
they were ready to become hunters. The fjord has always
played an important role in life here. You can walk through
the reeds right at the water’s edge and there’s direct access
to the river Skjern Å’s nature reserve. Local fishermen
and yachtsmen are active in the harbour, with its cosy
environment and relaxed atmosphere.
There’s a jazz festival in August which attracts lots of
people to this very special harbour area.
A very special item in Stauning is the production of one of
Denmark’s only whiskies. It started as an interest among
some enterprising men and it has gained very good reports
from connoisseurs, and it is available in some of the
best restaurants in Denmark, including Noma.
The West Jutland airport is close to the town. It is used
especially by the flying school, taxi and private planes, but
the Danish Aircraft Museum with its interesting collection
of veteran planes is also here. The oldest planes are from
1911, and several times during summer there’s a display
with these old planes. Joy flights can also be arranged for a
better view of the area.
