Autoicous. Plants in yellowish tufts, brown below (rarely<br />
dark green and blackish below). Leaves curled when dry, pa-<br />
tent when moist, lineal-lanceolate, shortly acuminate, + suddenly<br />
widened into an obovate or oval base and usually contracted<br />
above it. Margins often erose and recurved above the base.<br />
Nerve yellowish or brownish vanishing below the apex. Cells<br />
yellow, except 4—5 rows of hyaline cells with thickened trans-<br />
verse walls, vermicular in the middle of the base, in the upper<br />
part rounded, papillose, 11—13 p.. Perichaetial bracts broader<br />
and more obtuse than the leaves. Vaginula with a few stiff para-<br />
physes; ochrea distinct. Seta yellow, 3—6 mm long. Capsule<br />
narrowly oblong or subcylindric with a long neck, ribbed when<br />
dry and contracted below the mouth when empty;<br />
stomata in<br />
the neck; lid not bordered. Calyptra densely hairy. Peristome<br />
double; teeth 8 bigeminate, greyish, finely papillose, slightly<br />
perforated at the apex, afterwards splitting; processes 8,<br />
with 8<br />
rudimentary intermediate ones, which are rarely developed, lineal-<br />
lanceolate, hyaline, smooth, sometimes appendiculate. Spores<br />
yellowish, papillose, 24—27 v..<br />
