4.2 Programme Requirements/Qualification Profile of the Graduate<br />
In the Master of Education-programme combined knowledge of philosophy and religion enables students to reflect<br />
on the foundation of ethics and rights, the foundation of religion and reason, the relation between norms, values<br />
and society and cultural diversities.<br />
Professionialization Area<br />
4.2.1 General Goals<br />
Studies in the professionalization area aim to supply basic educational theory and to develop teaching and counseling<br />
competencies to prepare students for their final stage of teacher training based on the standards established<br />
by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the German States (KMK).<br />
4.2.2 Structure and subject content<br />
Professional area studies include educational theory, educational psychology, and other educational content<br />
which is taught in an interdisciplinary and competency-oriented manner in theoretical and practical courses.<br />
4.2.3 Interdisciplinary Competencies and key qualifications<br />
In professional area studies the following competencies are to be achieved, as set forth by the Standing Conference<br />
of the Ministers of Education(KMK):<br />
Competency area: Teaching:<br />
Teachers are specialists for teaching and learning.<br />
Competency area: Counselling:<br />
Teachers have counselling duties.<br />
Competency area: Evaluation:<br />
Teachers evaluate fairly and responsibly.<br />
Competency area: Innovation:<br />
Teachers continually revise and improve their competencies.<br />
The number and level of theoretical and practical competencies will suffice for the recognition of M.Ed. studies as<br />
equivalent to the First State Examination of the State of Lower Saxony for that school form and for admission to<br />
The third level of teacher training, where these competencies will be further developed to the level expected of<br />
finished teachers for that School form.<br />
