come to send peace <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir midst, but a sword, and <strong>the</strong><br />

old tug-<strong>of</strong>-war between right and wrong began. No<br />

sugar-plum expressions here, for light fights darkness<br />

with a glitter<strong>in</strong>g blade, <strong>the</strong> gleam be<strong>in</strong>g all <strong>the</strong> brighter<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>ky <strong>black</strong>ness. Like a liv<strong>in</strong>g tree <strong>in</strong> a timber-<br />

yard, he grew nobly, and now, after six <strong>years</strong>, he has won<br />

a small nucleal band <strong>of</strong> Christians who daily meet <strong>in</strong><br />

his town. Thus those stunted, stifled souls at <strong>long</strong> last get<br />

a chance. Like a toy town hall <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> centre <strong>of</strong> his village<br />

you can descry a nice schoolhouse he has built for his<br />

is not bound—did he not still cl<strong>in</strong>g to his copy <strong>of</strong> John's<br />

Gospel ? Well, watch <strong>the</strong> div<strong>in</strong>e logic <strong>of</strong> events <strong>in</strong>volved<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> treasure <strong>of</strong> a truth that " where <strong>the</strong> word <strong>of</strong> a K<strong>in</strong>g<br />

is, <strong>the</strong>re is power." One day <strong>the</strong> gun-cotton <strong>of</strong> John's<br />

Gospel came <strong>in</strong> contact with <strong>the</strong> t<strong>in</strong>der <strong>of</strong> his rebellion,<br />

and this K was literally exploded <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> k<strong>in</strong>gdom.<br />

For out from <strong>the</strong> pages <strong>of</strong> " John <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bosom " came <strong>the</strong><br />

assertive call, " !<br />

Follow Me " and that one word rugged
