(32) BUILDING LINE<br />
The line formed by the facades <strong>of</strong> buildings which creates a frame<br />
defining the public realm. Respecting building lines means to place walls<br />
or landscaping in such a manner as to continue the frame where there is<br />
an absence <strong>of</strong> buildings.<br />
(33) BUILDING PERMIT<br />
A permit obtained from the <strong>City</strong> which sets the inspection schedule and<br />
construction techniques for a particular project and specified use in<br />
accordance with adopted building codes and other prevailing standards<br />
for construction, and includes the <strong>City</strong>’s necessary approval.<br />
(34) BUILDING SETBACK LINE<br />
A line establishing the minimum allowable distance between the nearest<br />
part <strong>of</strong> any building, including eaves and overhangs, but excluding<br />
porches, bay windows, covered porches, decks, and patios, to the nearest<br />
edge <strong>of</strong> a street right-<strong>of</strong>-way, property line, or easement line, when<br />
measured perpendicular thereto.<br />
(35) BUILDING TYPE<br />
The standard classification <strong>of</strong> building construction as Allyard, Side-yard,<br />
Rear-yard, Court-yard, and Special Purpose types.<br />
(36) BUILT-UPON AREA<br />
The portion <strong>of</strong> a development project that is covered by impervious or<br />
partially impervious cover including buildings, pavement, gravel areas<br />
[e.g. roads, parking lots, paths], recreation facilities [e.g. tennis courts],<br />
etc. [Note: Wooden slatted decks and the water area <strong>of</strong> a swimming pool<br />
are considered pervious.]<br />
(37) CALIPER<br />
The size <strong>of</strong> tree’s trunk diameter as measured six inches above the<br />
ground for trees four inches or less, and as measured twelve inches<br />
above the ground for trees larger than four inches.<br />
(38) CANOPY, SERVICE STATION<br />
A structure constructed <strong>of</strong> rigid materials which is either free-standing or<br />
attached to a building that serves as an overhang intended to shield<br />
persons from the elements while using the service station.<br />
(39) CARRYING CAPACITY<br />
The amount <strong>of</strong> traffic which can be accommodated on a street without<br />
reducing the service level <strong>of</strong> the street as defined by the Florida<br />
Department <strong>of</strong> Transportation or street design standards <strong>of</strong> the Land<br />
Development Code. Carrying capacity is determined by the amount <strong>of</strong><br />
traffic per lane per hour.<br />
(40) CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS<br />
A certificate stating that work to be done on a landmark structure and/or<br />
within a Historic District meets the criteria which maintains the structure<br />
as historic and a contributing structure to the District.<br />
