(177) PARK<br />

Land which is used or intended for use for active or passive public<br />

recreation.<br />

(178) PARKING AREA<br />

All the area in square footage <strong>of</strong> land designated for the storage <strong>of</strong> cars.<br />

The parking area also includes all areas for storage and trash facilities.<br />

(179) PARKING SPACE<br />

A space which is designed for the parking or temporary storage <strong>of</strong> an<br />

automobile as prescribed by the Ordinance.<br />

(180) PAVED<br />

Any surface area covered by crushed compacted gravel, concrete, asphalt,<br />

brick or stone pavers, or similar material in durability, appearance, and<br />

permeability.<br />

(181) PAVEMENT<br />

All required lot surface area upon which vehicles will move or be stored<br />

shall be paved with asphalt or concrete or an equivalent hard surfaced<br />

and dustless material. Non-residential <strong>of</strong>f-street parking areas which are<br />

provided in excess <strong>of</strong> the requirements established shall be located on<br />

grassed or sodded surface. Alternative materials may be substituted for<br />

grass or sod with the approval <strong>of</strong> <strong>City</strong> Council.<br />

All <strong>of</strong>f-street parking facilities shall be paved and parking spaces lined<br />

and marked, except for single-family residential and except that, for<br />

those uses in the CC district for which the required spaces are three (3)<br />

or fewer, spaces may be on grass or a permeable surface unless federal<br />

or state handicapped accessibility requirements or Southwest Florida<br />

Water Management District regulations necessitate paving. Such grass or<br />

permeable parking spaces shall include curb stops, a paved driveway<br />

apron across the public right-<strong>of</strong>-way and any required landscape<br />

screening.<br />

(182) PEDESTRIAN ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT<br />

Development which accommodates the needs <strong>of</strong> the pedestrian. Such<br />

development will have parking to the side or rear <strong>of</strong> a building, will mix<br />

uses and provide them in proximity to one another, will allow the<br />

pedestrian the option or choice <strong>of</strong> not having to use a car to accomplish<br />

certain trips, and will provide a variety <strong>of</strong> interesting and detailed<br />

streetscapes which balances the needs <strong>of</strong> the pedestrian and the car.<br />
