6.3 The Present status of IT Resources
6.3.1 Website and web servers:
The DES HP has its own website: http://himachal.nic.in/economics/.
There is huge data relating to various assignments of the DES, which have to be
processed weekly, quarterly, half yearly and annually. This data have to be
collected from field offices, which is a time consuming process. Presently DES
has no web server available. Therefore, one server for the DES and other server
for the 20 core Statistical Activities will be required to be set up in the state level
data centres for speedy data collection without wastage of man hours.
In Himachal Pradesh there are 12 district statistical offices and are not connected
with Wide Area Network (WAN). Internet facility is available in few District
Statistical Offices.
At present, even though the required number of computers and printers are
available in the DES & DSOs offices for the existing assignments but most of
them were purchased long back (2000). This entire computer infrastructure needs
to be replaced with new systems both at the Head Office and in District
Statistical Offices.
6.3.2 Data volume and storage:
The volume of data relating to various statistical activities in DES, HP is huge
which is maintained either in excel files or in form of Hard Copies.
6.3.3 Availability of IT staff:
There is no IT staff is available in the DES, HP. and even no provision of
recruitment of IT staff in future.
6.3.4 IT training to Staff:
There is no IT training facility in DES HP. However, the Himachal Institute of
Public Administration are conducting computer training Programmes i.e. basic
