c) Frequency
The frequency of data collection is as follows:
• Data on registration of vehicles and revenue are collected are
compiled each month.
• Data on taxes and fees are collected quarterly
• The frequency of data collection on road length is annual.
• Road Accidents data and passenger transportation data are compiled
on a monthly basis
• Data on passengers transported by (HRTC)is compiled by Himachal
Road Transport Corporation on monthly basis.
d) Methodology
o Data on Registration of Vehicles: The data on registration of vehicles
and other related parameters are compiled at the Regional Transport
offices and data sent to the Commissioner of Transport every month,
where state level reports are prepared and sent to the state and central
government.
o Data on Roads lengths (PWD): Information about road length is
prepared by Jr. Engineer for his area, passed on to the sub division
(Assistant Engineer), and to a division (Executive Engineer) Circle
(Superintending Engineer) and to the state (Chief Engineer) Urban Local
Bodies also provide data on road length within their respective
jurisdiction.
o Data on Public Transport System: The Depot Managers of the
Himachal Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation collects information
about passenger Transported by each bus, on its return to the depot. This
information is compiled at the depot offices and sent to the headquarters
of Himachal Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation on a monthly
basis, where it is compiled for the state and released annually.
e) Time lag in release of data
There is a time lag of about 12 months in dissemination of data relating to
number of vehicles, road length etc. and 18 months for road accidents, and
passengers transported by road.
