6.12.1 Present Status of Statistical Activity:
To record fish production data, department of fisheries has two different
fishing sectors! Namely:
(i) Reservoir Fisheries
(ii) Riverine Fisheries
6.12.1.1 Reservoir Fisheries:
Fishing in reservoirs namely Gobindsagar, Maharana Pratap Sagar,
Chamera and Ranjeet Sagar Dam comprising of an area of 43,000 ha is
through the co-operative folds where fishermen have been organized in to
fisheries co-operative societies. At present there are 43 such societies.
Fish catches are landed & weighed at well defined fish landing centres.
These fish landing centres are managed by fisheries officer being Incharge
with assistance of two Fisheries Field Assistants. Department of
fisheries is charging royality @15% of the sale proceeds of the fish so
caught. The primary data so generated at the landing centre is compiled
and is reported to controlling officers at division level fortnightly as well
as on monthly basises. Fish landing centres with comparatively low fish
production are being managed by sub-inspector of fisheries.
6.12.1.2 Riverine Fisheries:
Fishermen of riverine sector obtain fishing license @ Rs 100/-license for
a financial year and are largely unorganized in their activity. At present
there are 5000 such riverine fishermen who are deriving their livelihood
through fishing. Rivers/streams/khads have been divided into fishing
beats. Each beat being looked after by a fisheries field assistant. Fisheries
Field Assistant use to assess riverine catches by examining randomly fish
catches of fishermen in their beat. These reports are being forwarded to
the Assistant Director of Fisheries at Division Level.
6.12.2 Need of Good data base:
The envisaged objectives are as under:
1. Timely collection of primary data and its reporting to Directorate of
Fisheries and further to Department of Economics and Statistics.
2. Interpretation and Analysis of data so collected.
