4.1.12 Education and Literacy Statistics
a) Agency
The agencies responsible for collection and compilation of education related
statistics are:
1. The Directorates of secondary/ primary education
2. Census: Data on general literacy rate are generated by the population census.
3. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA): The state government is implementing the central
scheme of Sarve Shiksha Abhiyan for achieving the targets of universalisation of
primary education and to enrol 100% children of age group 6-14 years by 2010. SSA
collects the required data for monitoring.
4. All India School Education Survey: This is a quinquennial activity. The survey is
conducted jointly by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (GoI), the
National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and the State
Education Department.

3. Number of Scholars by gender in schools by type of school and district
4. Number of Scheduled caste Scholars by gender in schools by type of school
and district
5. Number of Teachers by gender in schools by type of school and district
6. Number of Students in schools class group and district
7. Teacher pupil ratio by type of educational institution and district
8. Classification of number of educational institutions by type of education and
management type district wise
9. Number of total scholars and Scheduled Caste scholars in recognized colleges
for general education district wise
10. Classification of recognized high and higher secondary schools by district
and type of management (Government, Non government)
11. Classification of recognized high and higher secondary schools by district
and type of school (for boys, for girls)
