(Crop cutting experiments of various crops and fixation of yield and
estimation of production)
Directorate of Land Records is playing major role for the generation and supply
of Agricultural Statistics in the State of Himachal Pradesh. Secondly crop area
and productivity are collected at the village level through Revenue officials under
the supervision of Revenue Officers but not under the supervision of Department
of Economics and Statistics.
6.20.1 Crop area and production Statistics
The department of Land Records collects area figures of land use and all
cropped area from the revenue field agency and worked out production on
the basis of standard yield fixed on the basis of crop cutting experiments
conducted by the field agency. Being SASA area and production along
with standard yield is being regularly supplied to the Govt. of India and
State Govt. for planning and policy making related to agriculture and its
allied sectors.
Further, it is clarified that about 450 (per season) crop cutting
experiments by traditional methods on various crops is exclusively being
conducted by the Revenue Field Agency, (SDMs/DROs/Tehsildars/ Naib
Tehsildars of Settlement & Land Records, Statistical Assistants & Field
Kanungos), where as Crop cutting experiments by Random Sampling
Method on six major crops viz. Maize, Rice Wheat Barley, Potatoes &
Ginger are being conducted through field agency of Revenue &
Agriculture Department. The contribution of Revenue Department in
conducting crop cutting experiment by random sampling method is more
than 80%.
