Cope, however, gave the best description <strong>of</strong>Ndaba's praises:<br />

"He who hunted the forests until they murmured,<br />

Until eventually they cried: "Enough! Isn't it? "<br />

Who when he lay down was the size <strong>of</strong>rivers,<br />

Who when he got up was that <strong>of</strong>mountains,<br />

Precious little amulet <strong>of</strong>ourpeople, <strong>of</strong>Gcabashe. '09<br />

Ndaba was succeeded by lama in 1771 who built his homestead,<br />

Nobamba (the place <strong>of</strong> unity or binding together), near the Mpembeni<br />

stream. 20<br />

lama had two WIves, the chief <strong>of</strong> whom was Mthaniya, daughter <strong>of</strong><br />

Manyelela <strong>of</strong> the Sibiya clan. Mthaniya begot twin girls, i.e. Mkabayi<br />

and Mmama, as well as a boy named Senzangakhona and finally a girl,<br />

Mawa. 21 The three daughters <strong>of</strong>lama became heads <strong>of</strong>harems in the<br />
