The conquest <strong>of</strong>Zwide earned Shaka the following praises:<br />

"Umxoshi womuntu amxoshelefuthi,<br />

[The one who chases a person repeatedly]<br />

Ngimthand 'exosh' uZwid' ozalwa nguLanga,<br />

[I like him chasing Zwide <strong>of</strong>Langa]<br />

Emthabatha lapho liphuma khona,<br />

[Taking him from where it rises]<br />

Emsingisa lapho lishona khona;<br />

[To where the sun sets]<br />

Uzwide wampheq 'amahlonjan' amabili. "58<br />

[Breaking two <strong>of</strong>Zwide's breasts]<br />

Other clans that Shaka conquered., thereby earning his kingdom respect<br />

that transcended the boundaries <strong>of</strong> KwaZulu, were the Bomvana under<br />

Gambushe, Mpondo <strong>of</strong> Fakll and Msane under Nxaba. 59 A strange<br />

characteristic <strong>of</strong> Shaka was that having conquered all clans in KwaZulu<br />

(which included what later became known as Natal), he did not treat them<br />

as aliens, but embraced them as brothers.'" It is typical <strong>of</strong> the wisdom <strong>of</strong><br />

his strategy that this kind <strong>of</strong> treatment made them loyal citizens <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Zulu kingdom.<br />
