SN 614 277. The presence of these compounds suggested that the orig<strong>in</strong>al polar metabolites were<br />

possibly polymers or conjugates of these metabolites, which were now break<strong>in</strong>g down <strong>in</strong> the mass<br />

spectrometer to yield recognizable fragments (Needham & Hemm<strong>in</strong>gs, 1993; Needham, 1996).<br />

In response to an enquiry from the country prepar<strong>in</strong>g the EC draft assessment (Austria), the<br />

quantity of metabolites identified was recalculated as a percentage of the adm<strong>in</strong>istered dose. It was<br />

also stated <strong>in</strong> the study report that the radioactivity found <strong>in</strong> the cage wash most probably consisted<br />

of spoiled ur<strong>in</strong>e. Therefore the calculation of <strong>in</strong>dividual metabolites <strong>in</strong> the cage wash as a percentage<br />

of adm<strong>in</strong>istered dose was based on the concentration of metabolites <strong>in</strong> the ur<strong>in</strong>e (as a percentage of<br />

total activity) stated <strong>in</strong> the dossier table and the percentage of activity found <strong>in</strong> the cage wash. The<br />

amount of metabolites identified <strong>in</strong> various fractions after s<strong>in</strong>gle low, s<strong>in</strong>gle high and repeated dos<strong>in</strong>g<br />

is shown <strong>in</strong> Table 4 (Grosshans, 2003).<br />
