E­20006 Defect Description
If clearance found beyond permissible limits,
withdraw shaft and stern tube bushes (fwd and aft)
carry out following repairs as per inspection and
recommendation of MQC(quote separately).
(i) Renew stern tube bushes (Mat­ gun metal with 5
mm thick white metal lining, 115x147x362 &
114x148x248 mm length) and machine the bushes
to reduce the clearance within minimum permissible
limits. ( Quote for port and stbd shaft )
(ii) Check trueness of shafts, carry out metal
building up / insert sleeves on both journals (fwd &
aft) machine and journals to be made smooth and
mirror finish as per MQC instruction. Resight shaft
line and align shaft with respect to gear box.
(iii) Check and renew split roller Plummer bearing
(self aligning ball bearings Type­ SN 520 Series),
bearing grease to be renewed.)
(iv) Renew bulkhead glands hemp packing (matgreased
hemp, size­ 1/2 inch sq x 370 mm long x
08 no, shaft dia­ 90 mm).
(V) Inspect shaft couplings, coupling key and
keyways, coupling nut and renew
Activity Description
(i) Removal of stern tube bushes from the housing,
visual and dimensional inspection of the bushes if
damaged renew the bushes and its housing by
remetaling as per the specification refer OEM
manual for details, machining the bushes as per
sighting if required, check the boxing up clearances
of stern bush, pack the inner side gland with hemp
packing as specified.
(ii) Removal of tail shaft, intermediate shaft, visual
and dimensional inspection of shaft , key, key slot,
check trueness of the shaft with coupling, check the
shaft load line with respect to its bearing. Check the
