Partition Method<br />

Initially, all rows are in one branch. In order to determine the first split, each X column must be considered.<br />

The c<strong>and</strong>idate columns are shown in the C<strong>and</strong>idates report. As shown in Figure 13.4, the rooms column<br />

has the largest LogWorth, <strong>and</strong> is therefore the optimum split to make. See “Statistical Details” on page 348<br />

for more information about LogWorth.<br />

The optimum split is noted by an asterisk. However, there are cases where the SS is higher for one variable,<br />

but the Logworth is higher for a different variable. In this case > <strong>and</strong> < are used to point in the best direction<br />

for each variable. The asterisk corresponds to the condition where they agree. See “Statistical Details” on<br />

page 348 for more information about LogWorth <strong>and</strong> SS.<br />

Click the Split button <strong>and</strong> notice the first split was made on the column rooms, at a value of 6.943. Open<br />

the two new c<strong>and</strong>idate reports. See Figure 13.5.
