Chapter 15 Performing Categorical Response Analysis 385
The Categorical Platform
The Categorical Platform
The Categorical platform has capabilities similar to other platforms. The choice of platforms depends on
your focus, the shape of your data, and the desired level of detail. Table 15.1 shows several of JMP’s analysis
platforms, and their strengths.
Table 15.1 Comparing JMP’s Categorical Analyses
Platform
Distribution
Fit Y By X: Contingency
Pareto Plot
Variability Chart:
Attribute
Fit Model
Partition, Neural Net
Specialty
Separate, ungrouped categorical responses.
Two-way situations, including chi-square tests, correspondence
analysis, agreement.
Graphical analysis of multiple-response data, especially
multiple-response defect data, with more rate tests than Fit Y By X.
Attribute gauge studies, with more detail on rater agreement.
Logistic categorical responses and generalized linear models.
Specific categorical response models.
The strength of the categorical platform is that it can handle responses in a wide variety of formats without
needing to reshape the data.
Launching the Platform
Open Failure3Freq.jmp in the Quality Control folder located in the sample data. Click on Analyze >
Modeling > Categorical to obtain the launch dialog. The platform has a unique launch dialog. The
buttons select groups of columns (as opposed to single columns like other JMP dialogs) for each of the
situations.
