Note: The following rules apply to Figure 3-6:<br />

► If the managed system is not able to provide the minimum amount of<br />

memory, the partiti<strong>on</strong> will not start.<br />

► You cannot dynamically increase the amount of memory in a partiti<strong>on</strong> to<br />

more than the defined maximum. If you want more memory than the<br />

maximum, the partiti<strong>on</strong> needs to be brought down and the profile updated<br />

and then restarted.<br />

► The ratio between minimum amount of memory and maximum cannot be<br />

more than 1/64.<br />

Important: The minimum recommended memory for a VIOS is 512 MB.<br />

Similar to an operating system, the complexity of the I/O subsystem and the<br />

number of the virtual devices have a bearing <strong>on</strong> the amount of memory<br />

required, such as when using multiple paths to SAN storage devices.<br />
