5.3 Rebuilding the Virtual I/O Server<br />

This secti<strong>on</strong> describes what to do if there are no valid backup devices or backup<br />

images. In this case, you must install a new Virtual I/O Server.<br />

In the following discussi<strong>on</strong>, we assume that the partiti<strong>on</strong> definiti<strong>on</strong>s of the Virtual<br />

I/O Server and of all clients <strong>on</strong> the HMC are still available. We describe how we<br />

rebuilt our c<strong>on</strong>figurati<strong>on</strong> of network and SCSI c<strong>on</strong>figurati<strong>on</strong>s.<br />

It is useful to generate a <strong>System</strong> Plan <strong>on</strong> the HMC as documentati<strong>on</strong> of partiti<strong>on</strong><br />

profiles, settings, slot numbers, and so <strong>on</strong>. Example 5-10 shows the command to<br />

create a <strong>System</strong> Plan for a managed system. Note that the file name must have<br />

the extensi<strong>on</strong> .sysplan.<br />
