When installing the media using NIM, the installios command is also<br />

available in AIX 5L both for the NIM server and any NIM client. If you run the<br />

installios command <strong>on</strong> a NIM client, you are prompted for the locati<strong>on</strong> of<br />

the bos.sysmgt.nim.master fileset. The NIM client is then c<strong>on</strong>figured as a NIM<br />

master. Use the following link and search for installios for additi<strong>on</strong>al<br />

informati<strong>on</strong>:<br />

Tip: If you plan <strong>on</strong> using two Virtual I/O Servers (described in 4.1, “Providing<br />

higher serviceability” <strong>on</strong> page 182), you could install the first server, apply<br />

updates, multipath drivers and so <strong>on</strong>, then make a NIM backup and use the<br />

image for installing the sec<strong>on</strong>d Virtual I/O Server.<br />

The following steps show the installati<strong>on</strong> using the optical install device:<br />

1. Place the Virtual I/O Server Versi<strong>on</strong> 1.3 DVD disk in the drive.<br />

2. Activate the VIO_Server1 partiti<strong>on</strong> by right-clicking the partiti<strong>on</strong> name and<br />

selecting the Activate butt<strong>on</strong>, as shown in Figure 3-22. Select the default<br />

profile you used to create this partiti<strong>on</strong>.<br />
