Managing memory<br />

Now we have management of processors in shared-processor partiti<strong>on</strong>s, we will<br />

move <strong>on</strong> to managing memory. Before c<strong>on</strong>tinuing, you should stop the PLM<br />

server instance.<br />

In this sec<strong>on</strong>d example, we will c<strong>on</strong>figure PLM to manage the c<strong>on</strong>figured<br />

memory of two dedicated processor partiti<strong>on</strong>s: app_server and db_server.<br />

Because PLM cannot manage different processor types within the same group,<br />

we must create a new group. This new group can either be incorporated into the<br />

existing PLM policy or we could create a new PLM server instance to manage it.<br />

In this example, we will choose the first opti<strong>on</strong> to show the management of two<br />

groups from a single PLM server.<br />

The two dedicated processor partiti<strong>on</strong>s are c<strong>on</strong>figured identically <strong>on</strong> the HMC.<br />

This is shown in Table 6-6.<br />

The c<strong>on</strong>figurati<strong>on</strong> steps are:<br />

1. Edit the existing PLM policy file.<br />

Choose the Edit a Policy File from the main PLM window. This produces a<br />

window, as shown in Figure 6-17. Type in the file name of the previous policy<br />

file or navigate to it using the Browse butt<strong>on</strong>. Click OK, which pops up the<br />

Edit Policy File window.<br />
