3.4 Basic Virtual I/O Server scenario<br />

In this secti<strong>on</strong>, a simple c<strong>on</strong>figurati<strong>on</strong> c<strong>on</strong>sisting of a single Virtual I/O Server<br />

partiti<strong>on</strong> servicing virtual SCSI devices to four logical partiti<strong>on</strong>s is shown. Refer to<br />

Figure 3-26 for the basic c<strong>on</strong>figurati<strong>on</strong> scenario.<br />

Based <strong>on</strong> Figure 3-26, the following secti<strong>on</strong>s will guide you through c<strong>on</strong>figuring<br />

virtual Ethernet and virtual SCSI adapters.<br />

3.4.1 Creating virtual SCSI server adapters<br />

At this stage, the clients are not known to the HMC. If you create the SCSI server<br />

adapters now, you will have to specify the partiti<strong>on</strong> ID of the client (from your<br />

planning) or you specify that Any client can c<strong>on</strong>nect, which means you will have<br />

to change this after you have created the clients.<br />

A more efficient procedure would be to leave the creati<strong>on</strong> of SCSI adapters until<br />

you create the client LPARs. In the HMC menus, you can create the client and<br />

server adapter simultaneously. This procedure requires that the network is<br />

c<strong>on</strong>figured with c<strong>on</strong>necti<strong>on</strong> to the HMC to allow for dynamic LPAR.<br />
