Center for Social Justice, Ahmedabad imparted training to selected prisoners lodged in<br />
jails in Gujarat for which an amount of Rs.79,000/- was sanctioned.<br />

SETU, Mumbai organized awareness camps on Child Labour in selected Districts of<br />
Maharashtra for which an amount of Rs.70,000/- was sanctioned.<br />

Press Club of Bihar, Patna organized a one day seminar cum workshop on the “Role of<br />
Media in the Promotion and Protection of human rights in Bihar” for which an amount<br />
of Rs.1,00,000/- was sanctioned.<br />

Society for the Cause of Justice, Secunderabad organized a seminar on “<strong>Human</strong> <strong>Rights</strong><br />
and the Administration of Criminal Justice” for which an amount of Rs.45,000/- was<br />
sanctioned.<br />

The Indian Institute of Public Administration, Orissa Branch organized a function to<br />
observe <strong>Human</strong> <strong>Rights</strong> Day 2004, for which an amount of Rs.35,000/- was sanctioned.<br />
15.4 The <strong>Commission</strong> continues to receive complaints relating to serious violations of human<br />
rights from NGOs, which act as the eyes and ears of the <strong>Commission</strong> in the remotest corners of<br />
the country.<br />
15.5 A Core Group of NGOs has been constituted under section 12(i) of the Protection of<br />
<strong>Human</strong> <strong>Rights</strong> Act, 1993, to encourage the efforts of the Non-Governmental Organizations<br />
(NGOs) and institutions engaged in the field of human rights. The Core Group provides the<br />
<strong>Commission</strong> with crucial inputs regarding the hopes, aspirations and expectations of the civil<br />
society from the <strong>Commission</strong>.<br />
15.6 The <strong>Commission</strong> has worked closely with NGOs in respect of the specific issues which<br />
had been identified in discussions between the Core Group and the <strong>Commission</strong>. These included:<br />
systemic reforms in police and jail administration; matters relating to custodial institutions of<br />
various kinds, including women’s homes, children’s homes and the like; the rights of persons<br />
with disabilities, especially women and those belonging to disadvantaged sections of society;<br />
issues relating to Dalits; incidents of communalism-related violations of human rights; and the<br />
human rights of unorganized workers in both urban and rural areas.<br />
