Letter dated 12 th May 2004 to Chief Secretaries of all States/<br />

UTs Regarding Emergency Medical Care<br />

Dear<br />

The <strong>Commission</strong> is deeply concerned about access to health care and in particular, access to<br />

emergency medical care. The <strong>Commission</strong>, therefore, constituted an Expert Group headed by<br />

Dr. P.K. Dave to go into the issue in April 2003.<br />

The Expert Group has submitted a report to the <strong>Commission</strong>. In its meeting held on 22 nd April<br />

2004, the <strong>Commission</strong> accepted the recommendations made by it and desired that they be referred<br />

to the concerned Ministries/Departments of Central and State Governments as well as to the<br />

Director General of Health Services, Government of India.<br />

I am enclosing herewith the <strong>Commission</strong>’s recommendations for restructuring emergency medical<br />

services. You are requested to kindly have appropriate follow-up action initiated on these<br />

recommendations. You are also requested to kindly intimate the action taken on the<br />

recommendations of the <strong>Commission</strong>.<br />
