At Selk<strong>irk</strong> <strong>College</strong>, our skilled instructors will<br />
provide you with the a<strong>ca</strong>demic, theoreti<strong>ca</strong>l,<br />
philosophi<strong>ca</strong>l and practi<strong>ca</strong>l edu<strong>ca</strong>tion you need to<br />
make a contribution to your community.<br />
The overall goal of the Human Services<br />
instructional area is to provide certifi<strong>ca</strong>te and<br />
diploma level programs that are current, relevant<br />
and responsive to individual student needs, and<br />
that provide skills and competencies that enable<br />
students to find employment in a chosen field or<br />
to be successful in further study.<br />
Program offerings are based on a humanistic<br />
framework in which people are encouraged and<br />
supported in working towards personal fulfillment.<br />
Quality instruction is achieved through<br />
integration of experiential value-based instruction,<br />
<strong>ca</strong>se study analysis, theoreti<strong>ca</strong>l analysis, cooperative<br />
learning strategies, and practi<strong>ca</strong>l appli<strong>ca</strong>tion<br />
of skills in practice settings.<br />

The ECCE Diploma Program has embedded<br />
in it the Advanced Certifi<strong>ca</strong>te for Infant and<br />
Toddlers that was offered this year, 2011-2012.<br />
The following year we will be alternating the<br />
Advanced Certifi<strong>ca</strong>te with the Supported Child<br />
Development Advanced Certifi<strong>ca</strong>te. This will<br />
also be embedded in the Diploma Program in<br />
2012-2013. Each year these specialty courses will<br />
alternate, you <strong>ca</strong>n take the specialized courses on<br />
their own and receive the Advanced Certifi<strong>ca</strong>te,<br />
or you <strong>ca</strong>n include one set of these as part of your<br />
Diploma Program.<br />
