• February 4 - Program begins.<br />

• April 19 - Graduation ceremonies.<br />

• July 11 - Program ends.<br />

Program Objectives<br />

Selk<strong>irk</strong> <strong>College</strong> offers Metal Fabri<strong>ca</strong>tor (Fitter)<br />

Foundation training in cooperation with the Industry<br />

Training Authority (ITA). The Foundation<br />

Program consists of Level 1 techni<strong>ca</strong>l training in<br />

addition to practi<strong>ca</strong>l and essential skills related to<br />

the Metal Fabri<strong>ca</strong>tor (Fitter) apprentice program.<br />

Upon successful completion of the program<br />

students will be granted Level 1 Techni<strong>ca</strong>l training<br />

and 450 hours towards a Metal Fabri<strong>ca</strong>tor Apprenticeship<br />

with the Industry Training Authority<br />

of BC.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

• graduation from a British Columbia Senior<br />

Secondary School or equivalent,* with<br />

• Principles of Math 10, Appli<strong>ca</strong>tions of Math<br />

11 or Essentials of Math 12 or equivalent<br />

with a ‘C’ or better, and<br />

• English 10 with a ‘C’ or better.<br />

• good hand/eye coordination.<br />

• all appli<strong>ca</strong>nts are required to complete a<br />

computerized placement test in reading,<br />

writing and mathematics once they have<br />

submitted their appli<strong>ca</strong>tion.<br />

*Consideration will be given to mature individuals<br />

(19 years or older) who are not Senior Secondary<br />

School graduates provided they have completed or<br />

are in the process of obtaining Principles of Math<br />

10 or equivalent with a ‘C’ grade or better.(This<br />

course must be completed prior to the program<br />

entry date.)<br />

• Develop Plate and Structural Patterns<br />

• Use Surface Prep and Finishing Methods<br />

• Fabri<strong>ca</strong>te Plate and Structural Sections<br />

Students must supply some hand tools, safety<br />

boots, leatherwear and purchase module texts at<br />

a cost of approximately $600. A refundable tool<br />

deposit of $100 will be required at the start of the<br />

program.<br />
