Program Objectives<br />

For students interested in earning a Bachelor<br />

of Arts degree in English, this Associate of Arts<br />

degree provides two years of university transferable<br />

courses that fulfill most or all of the requirements<br />

to enter the third year of a Major or Honours<br />

program in English.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

In addition to fulfilling the program requirements<br />

for a general Associate of Arts degree, to earn<br />

an associate degree in English, a student must<br />

complete at least 18 credits of English courses<br />

at the 100- and 200-level, including at least six<br />

credits at the 100-level.<br />

Course of Studies<br />

The following is a suggested mix of courses to<br />

satisfy requirements for the Associate of Arts<br />

degree in English. Courses should be chosen<br />

only after consultation with a Selk<strong>irk</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

counsellor.<br />

Semester 1<br />

• ENGL 110-3: <strong>College</strong> Composition or<br />

• ENGL 112-3: Introduction to Poetry and<br />

Drama<br />

• Any 100- or 200-level Arts other than<br />

English (3 credits)<br />

• 100-level Math, or Computing Science,<br />

or Statistics (3 credits) (may be taken in<br />

Semester 1 or 2)<br />

• 100- or 200-level Humanities, excluding<br />

English; foreign language recommended (3<br />

credits)<br />

• 100- or 200-level Social Sciences (3 credits)<br />

• 100- or 200-level Humanities, excluding<br />

English; foreign language recommended<br />

• 100- or 200-level Social Sciences (3 credits)<br />

Semester 3<br />

• ENGL 200-3: A Survey of English Literature I<br />

• ENGL 202-3: Canadian Literature I or<br />

• ENGL 204-3: Children’s Literature I<br />

• Any 200-level Arts other than English (3<br />

credits)<br />

• 100- or 200-level Science elective (3 credits)<br />

• 100- or 200-level university transfer elective<br />

Semester 4<br />

• ENGL 201-3: A Survey of English Literature II<br />
