General Information<br />
Selk<strong>irk</strong> <strong>College</strong> offers well over one hundred<br />
first- and second-year university courses that<br />
have formal transfer to universities in British<br />
Columbia, in other parts of Canada and the<br />
United States. Detailed course-by-course transfer<br />
information among institutions within BC <strong>ca</strong>n be<br />
found in the BC Online Transfer Guide. Students<br />
may choose to study full or part time, take a<br />
single course, or complete up to two full years of<br />
university studies.<br />
Students who successfully complete two full<br />
years (normally sixty credits or twenty courses)<br />
of general university studies courses will be<br />
awarded a Liberal Arts and Science Diploma.<br />
To qualify for this diploma, a student must obtain<br />
a minimum overall grade point average of 2.00<br />
(“C” average), and have completed at least one<br />
three-credit university transfer course in English.<br />
Selk<strong>irk</strong> <strong>College</strong> university-level courses transfer<br />
into Bachelor of Arts programs at universities<br />
with courses available in Anthropology, Creative<br />
Writing, Economics, English, French, Geography,<br />
History, Humanities, Peace Studies, Philosophy,<br />
Psychology, Spanish, Sociology, and Women’s<br />
Studies.<br />
Course credits may also be transferred into<br />
Bachelor of Science programs, with courses<br />
offered in Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry,<br />
Computer Science, Geography, Geology,<br />
Mathematics, Physics and Statistics.<br />
Courses are available that meet the admission<br />
requirements for Bachelor of Edu<strong>ca</strong>tion<br />
programs at the elementary and secondary<br />
level. In addition, UBC and Selk<strong>irk</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />
collaborate to provide the West Kootenay<br />
Teacher Edu<strong>ca</strong>tion Program (WKTEP) which<br />
is a 12-month B.Ed degree program from UBC<br />
but delivered here on <strong>ca</strong>mpus for individuals who<br />
already possess an appropriate university degree.<br />
Many professional schools and faculties at<br />
universities will admit only students who have<br />
completed one or more years of a specific<br />
pre-professional program of Arts and Sciences<br />
courses. Pre-professional program requirements<br />
may be fulfilled by choosing the appropriate<br />
mix of university transfer courses. Examples of<br />
professions for which pre-professional programs<br />
are offered at Selk<strong>irk</strong> <strong>College</strong> include:<br />
