Program Objectives<br />
With a strong emphasis on portfolio development<br />
and professional practices in combination with<br />
university transferable liberal arts coursework,<br />
graduates from the Studies in Writing program<br />
will be better positioned to compete for placement<br />
in university writing programs or to continue<br />
with their own writing practice. This program<br />
is designed for students of writing who have an<br />
authentic curiosity for a wide range of subject<br />
areas. Students who complete two years (60<br />
credits) of courses with a minimum grade point<br />
average of 2.00 (“C” average) will be awarded a<br />
Liberal Arts Diploma in Writing Studies.<br />
Program Requirements<br />
To earn a Liberal Arts Diploma in Writing<br />
Studies, students must:<br />
• Complete a total of 60 credits of university<br />
transferable courses. At least 12 of these<br />
credits must be in English, which should<br />
include ENGL 112, ENGL 114, ENGL 200,<br />
ENGL 201 and CWRT 210 - Ecopoetics.<br />
• Complete four Writing Studies courses<br />
(CWRT 100, CWRT 101, CWRT 200 and<br />
CWRT 201).<br />
• Choose electives from at least two subject<br />
areas other than English or Writing Studies.<br />
Students are strongly encouraged to study a<br />
foreign language at the university level and those<br />
interested in developing their literary dexterity in<br />
all fields of study should consider taking at least<br />
one lab science.<br />
Admission Requirements<br />
Admission to the program requires the completion<br />
of English 12 with a grade of “C” or better. Other<br />
prerequisites depend on the electives you choose<br />
to make up your program. Please consult with a<br />
Selk<strong>irk</strong> <strong>College</strong> counsellor for more information.<br />
