Selk<strong>irk</strong> <strong>College</strong> does not plan to offer the<br />
APN program in the <strong>ca</strong>lendar year 2012-<br />
2013, nor will the Fee Information under “At<br />
a Glance” show any fees.<br />
Program Summary<br />
This program is typi<strong>ca</strong>lly offered in alternating<br />
years with the Health Care Assistant Program.<br />
Currently this program is under a Provincial<br />
review and will not be offered in 2012-13. Please<br />
refer to the college website for more up-to-date<br />
information or contact an admissions officer.<br />
Program Objectives<br />
The focus of this program is to prepare experienced<br />
HCAís to work as Licensed Practi<strong>ca</strong>l<br />
Nurses. As an LPN, you will be a part of a<br />
dynamic health <strong>ca</strong>re team that works within a<br />
variety of health <strong>ca</strong>re settings with individuals<br />
across the life span who require support with<br />
health promotion, illness prevention and acute<br />
<strong>ca</strong>re interventions.<br />
Career Potential<br />
The APN program will prepare graduates with<br />
the ability to provide <strong>ca</strong>re in partnership with<br />
other health <strong>ca</strong>re professionals to selected clients<br />
chosen on the basis of acuity and complexity. The<br />
graduate’s acquired skill levels are vast, ranging in<br />
detail and involvedness. The LPN role is a sought<br />
after profession with possible work environments<br />
that included hospitals, residential facilities and<br />
community-based organizations.<br />
