Admission Requirements<br />

In addition to meeting the general entrance<br />

requirements for admission to Selk<strong>irk</strong> <strong>College</strong>,<br />

appli<strong>ca</strong>nts must meet the following Business<br />

Administration requirements:<br />

• English 12 or equivalent with a grade of “C+”<br />

or higher required.<br />

• Principles of Mathematics 11 or Appli<strong>ca</strong>tions<br />

of Mathematics 12, or equivalent,<br />

with a grade of “C+” or higher required.<br />

Mathematics 12 and at least one Science 11<br />

are recommended.<br />

• Mature appli<strong>ca</strong>nts without the above qualifi<strong>ca</strong>tions<br />

for full-time study are encouraged to<br />

arrange an interview with the program advisor<br />

or designate to discuss admission to the<br />

program. An assessment will be made of the<br />

appli<strong>ca</strong>nt’s ability to complete the program<br />

based on work experience, studies undertaken<br />

since leaving school, an assessment tool, and<br />

the results of the interview.<br />

• Appli<strong>ca</strong>nts who lack the admission<br />

requirements may still gain admission to the<br />

program through a multi-level entry system<br />

which allows students to take a combination<br />

of business and upgrading courses in the<br />

first year. This mode of entry may extend the<br />

length of the business diploma program to<br />

three years.<br />

Part-Time Study<br />

The Business Administration program encourages<br />

and supports part-time study, and special<br />

consideration has been given to the integration<br />

of part-time students into the program. Check<br />

• Only full-time students are eligible for Co-op<br />

work Semester experiences.<br />

COMM 220 Principles of<br />

Organizational Behaviour<br />

The Business Administration Principles of Organizational<br />

Behaviour course is an introduction to<br />

the behaviour, relationships, and performance of<br />

individuals and groups in work organizations as<br />

well as the nature of organizational structure and<br />

processes. Organizational dynamics are examined<br />

with a view to creating an effective working<br />

environment from a human perspective.<br />

The Business Administration Financial Accounting<br />

I course is an introductory course in accounting<br />

from the basic accounting equation to the<br />

preparation of the income statement, statement<br />

of owner’s equity and balance sheet. This course<br />

covers merchandise operations, valuation and<br />

control of <strong>ca</strong>sh, temporary investments and<br />

receivables, inventories and cost of goods sold,<br />
