Psychology Flexible pre-major<br />
For students interested in earning a Bachelor of<br />
Arts degree in Psychology, Selk<strong>irk</strong> <strong>College</strong> offers<br />
the provincially accredited Flexible Pre-Major,<br />
60 credits of first- and second-year courses which<br />
include 18 credits of psychology. Students who<br />
complete the following courses at the first- and<br />
second-year level (and who meet other requirements<br />
for completion of first and second years —<br />
e.g. total credits), will be considered for admission<br />
to a BA in Psychology Major at the third-year<br />
level. Students so admitted at the third-year level<br />
will normally be eligible to complete their degree<br />
in the equivalent of two further a<strong>ca</strong>demic years, if<br />
all other degree requirements are met.<br />
Courses should be chosen only after consultation<br />
with a Selk<strong>irk</strong> <strong>College</strong> counsellor.<br />
The Psychology Flexible Pre-Major consists of<br />
the following:<br />
Totaling 18 credits, here are the required Selk<strong>irk</strong><br />
<strong>College</strong> courses for the Flexible Pre-Major<br />
in Psychology:<br />
• PSYC 100-3: Introductory Psychology I<br />
• PSYC 101-3: Introductory Psychology II<br />
• PSYC 202-3: Research Methods<br />
• STAT 105-3: Introduction to Statistics<br />
And any 2 of the following courses:<br />
• PSYC 200-3: Biologi<strong>ca</strong>l Psychology<br />
• PSYC 240-3: Child Development<br />
• PSYC 241-3: Adult Development<br />
• PSYC 230-3: Emotional and Social Disorders<br />
• PSYC 231-3: Psychotic and Organic<br />
Disorders<br />
The remaining 42 credits (14 courses) may<br />
be of your choosing, but check the entrance<br />
requirements at the university to which you plan<br />
to transfer for third year. For example, many<br />
arts degrees require at least 3 credits of first-year<br />
English (English 110), 3 credits in any first-year<br />
science course (e.g. Geology 132), and often 3<br />
credits of a second language (e.g. French 112).<br />
