These courses are for adults who have had very little<br />
practice with the printed word. They are designed<br />
to meet the basic reading, writing and speaking<br />
skills of learners and to help them gain the skills to<br />
cope well in personal, work and edu<strong>ca</strong>tional situations.<br />
These courses include practice in reading<br />
comprehension and strategies for reading.<br />

ENGL 051 Introductory Composition-<br />
This course is designed to prepare students for<br />
college level writing in a<strong>ca</strong>demic or techni<strong>ca</strong>l<br />
programs. The course concentrates on writing<br />
paragraphs and essays and the study of literature.<br />
ENGL 11 or equivalent, or computer-based<br />
TOEFL score of 180, or sufficient CPT score.<br />
