Program Objectives<br />

This program is for students interested in<br />

becoming pharmacists to completing their first<br />

two full years at Selk<strong>irk</strong> <strong>College</strong>. A detailed list of<br />

courses is included. Completion of this program<br />

fulfills the prerequisites for (and includes some of<br />

the courses within) pharmacy degrees at UBC, U<br />

of Alberta, and U of Saskatchewan.<br />

Program Requirements<br />

To earn an Associate of Science Degree - Entry<br />

to Pharmacy, a student must:<br />

• Select a two-year program of study in<br />

consultation with a Selk<strong>irk</strong> <strong>College</strong><br />

counsellor. You may make an appointment<br />

by <strong>ca</strong>lling the Counseling Office at<br />

1.888.953.1133, ext. 273.<br />

• Fulfill all the requirements for a General<br />

Associate of Science degree.<br />

• Have earned an overall grade of “C” or<br />

better in each course (cumulative grade point<br />

average of at least 2.0 on a four point s<strong>ca</strong>le)<br />

<strong>ca</strong>lculated on all the courses counting towards<br />

the Associate Degree requirements.<br />

Admission Requirements<br />

Admission to the Associate of Science - Entry<br />

to Pharmacy program requires the completion<br />

of Biology 12, Chemistry 11, English 12, Physics<br />

11 with a grade of “C” or higher, and Principles<br />

of Math 12 with a grade of ‘C+’ or higher.<br />

Physics 12 is recommended, and Chemistry 12 is<br />

STRONGLY recommended.<br />

Course of Studies<br />

The following is a suggested mix of courses to<br />

satisfy requirements for the Associate of Science<br />

Degree - Entry to Pharmacy. Courses should<br />

be chosen only after consultation with a Selk<strong>irk</strong><br />

<strong>College</strong> counsellor.<br />

Semester 1<br />

• ENGL 110-3: <strong>College</strong> Composition or<br />

• ENGL 112-3: Introduction to Poetry and<br />

Drama<br />

• BIOL 104-3: Biology I<br />

• CHEM 110-3: Fundamentals of Chemistry<br />

or<br />

• CHEM 122-3: General Chemistry I<br />

• MATH 100-3: Calculus I<br />

• PHYS 102-3: Basic Physics or<br />

• PHYS 104-3: Fundamental Physics<br />

Semester 2<br />

• ENGL 111-3: Introduction to Literature or<br />

• ENGL 114-3: Introduction to Prose Fiction<br />

• BIOL 106-3: Biology II<br />

• CHEM 125-4: Foundations of Chemistry II<br />

• MATH 101-3: Calculus II<br />

• STAT 105-3: Introduction to Statistics<br />

Semester 3<br />

• BIOL 204-3: Cell Biology<br />

• CHEM 212-3: Organic Chemistry I<br />

• BIOL 206-3: Introductory Biochemistry<br />

Notes:<br />

• Calculus-based physics (PHYS 104) is<br />

required by UBC. Students are strongly<br />

advised to confirm that their choice of<br />

physics course satisfies the requirements<br />

of the subsequent institution they plan to<br />

attend.<br />

• This program contains all prerequisite courses<br />

required for entry into a BSc in pharmacy at<br />

UBC and U of Alberta.<br />

• Students planning to apply to U of<br />

Saskatchewan should choose all of their arts<br />

and general electives from Humanities or<br />

Social Sciences; two of the electives should<br />

be chosen from PSYC 100, PHIL 100, SOC<br />

120 and SOC 121. With these electives, all<br />

prerequisites for entry to U of Saskatchewan<br />

will be complete.<br />

• Students are advised to ensure that their<br />

course selections will meet the degree<br />

requirements of the subsequent institution(s)<br />

they plan to attend.<br />
