Dermatological <strong>Drug</strong>s<br />

National Leprosy Eradication program Classification<br />

1. Tuberculoid (TT) : Well defined hypopigmented anaesthetic macules<br />

and plaques with loss of hair and hypohidrosis. The lesions have dry<br />

surface.<br />

2. Borderline Tuberculoid (BT): Hypopigmented anaesthetic macules and<br />

plaques with party well defined and partly ill defined borders. Satellite<br />

lesions present.<br />

3. Borderline Borderline (BB): Multiple lesions. Annular, geographic,<br />

punched out and inverted saucer lesions present. Multiple nerve<br />

thickening present.<br />

4. Borderline Lepromatous (BL): Multiple generalized asymmetric<br />

macules, papules and nodules. Bilateral asymmetrical nerve<br />

thickening. Smear positive.<br />

5. Lepromatous (LL): Multiple generalized symmetric macules, papules<br />

and nodules. Leonine facies present. Bilateral symmetrical nerve<br />

thickening present. Smear positive<br />

6. Indeterminate (IL): Single or multiple macules. No raised lesions.<br />

7. Pure neuritic leprosy (PL): No skin lesions. Only nerve thickening.<br />

Dapsone<br />

I: Leprosy, Dermatitis herpetiformis, chloroquine resistant<br />

malaria, pneumocystis pneumonia in AIDs.<br />

C/I: Sulphone allergy, severe G6PD deficiency, severe<br />

anaemia, porphyria.<br />

P/C: Mild to moderate G6PD deficiency, sulphonamide<br />

allergy, moderate anaemia, cardiac and pulmonary<br />

disease, lactation and pregnancy.<br />

A/E: Hemolytic anaemia, methemoglobnemia, hepatitis,<br />

dapsone syndrome, rash, fixed drug eruption,<br />

psychosis, motor neuropathy, Stevens Johnson<br />

syndrome.<br />

P/A: Tablet 50 mg, 100 mg<br />

Dose: Paucibacillary leprosy: 100 mg daily self administered<br />

for 6 months<br />

Multibacillary leprosy: 100 mg daily self administered<br />

for 1 year<br />

Cost: Tab 50 mg (1000): Rs. 40 – 42/-<br />
