Guidelines<br />

8. Methyl alcohol Ethyl alcohol Correction of metabolic<br />

acidosis by sodium<br />

bicarbonate 0.6-0.7g/kg<br />

IV diluted or oral, ethanol<br />

should be given orally in a<br />

dose of 30-50 mL in 2-4 h,<br />

if blood level of methanol<br />

exceeds 20mg/dl<br />

Hemodialysis to remove<br />

methyl alcohol if blood<br />

level >0.5g/L or total<br />

quantity<br />

ingested>30mL.Peritoneal<br />

dialysis only 1/8 th<br />

effective as<br />

haemodialysis.<br />

9. Nitrites Methylene blue 1-2mg/kg of 1% solution<br />

solution IV<br />

10.Opiates Naloxone 0-4-2mg IV<br />

11.Organophosphates Atropine<br />

Pralidoxime<br />

12. Carbamates Atropine<br />

Glycopyrrolate<br />

15mg IV every 15 min till<br />

drying of secretions.<br />

1 g IV over 15-30 min 8 h<br />

2-3 mg parenterally and<br />

repeat until signs of<br />

atropine intoxication<br />

appears<br />

It is an effective antidote<br />

It is available as ampoules<br />

containing 2mg of the drug<br />

to be given in a dose of<br />

0.45 mg per kg body wt IM<br />

or IV to be repeated till<br />

symptoms are<br />

relieved.this drug is<br />
