503.4.4. Curing of tack coat:<br />

(i)The tack coat shall be left to cure until all the volatiles have evaporated before any subsequent<br />

construction is started.<br />

(ii)No plant or vehicles shall be allowed on the tack coat other than those essential for the<br />

construction.<br />

503.5. Quality Control of Work<br />

For control of the quality of materials supplied and the works carried out, the relevant provisions<br />

of clause 501.8.4.1shall apply.<br />

503.6. Arrangements for Traffic<br />

During the period of construction, arrangements for traffic shall be made in accordance with the<br />

provisions and as per the direction of the Engineer in charge.<br />

503.7. Measurement for Payment<br />

Tack coat shall be measured in terms of surface area to application in square meters.<br />

503.8. Rate<br />

The contract unit rate for tack coat shall be payment in full for carrying out the required operations<br />

including for all components listed in Clause 401.8 (i) to (v) of the Ministry’s <strong>Specification</strong> for<br />

<strong>Road</strong> and <strong>Bridge</strong> <strong>Works</strong> (third revision) 1995 and as applicable to the work specified in these<br />

<strong>Specification</strong>s. The rate shall cover the provision of tack coat at 0.2 kg per square meter, with the<br />

provision that the variance in actual quantity of bitumen used will be assessed and t he payment<br />

adjusted accordingly.<br />

504. BITUMINOUS MACADAM<br />

504.1. General<br />

Bituminous macadam work shall consist of construction in a single course having 50mm to<br />

100mm thickness or in multiple courses of compacted crushed aggregates premixed with a<br />

bituminous binder on a previously prepared base.<br />

504.1. Materials<br />

504.2.1. Bitumen: The bitumen shall be paving bitumen of Penetration Grade complying with<br />

Indian Standard <strong>Specification</strong>s for "Paving Bitumen" IS: 73, and of the penetrate on indicated in<br />

Table given below<br />
