514.3. Stacking<br />

1. Coarse Aggregates:<br />

(i)Only the aggregates satisfying the <strong>Specification</strong> requirements shall be conveyed to the<br />

roadside and stacked.<br />

(ii)Each size of aggregate shall be stacked separately.<br />

(iii)Likewise, materials obtained from different quarry sources shall be stacked separately and in<br />

such a manner that there is no contamination of one source with another.<br />

2. Fine Aggregate:<br />

(i)As stated in the individual relevant <strong>Specification</strong> Clauses.<br />

(ii)The aggregates shall be stacked entirely clear of the roadway on even clear hard ground, 01<br />

on a platform prepared in advance for the purpose by the Contractor at his own cost and in a<br />

manner that allows correct and ready measurement.<br />

(iii)If the stockpile is placed on ground where the scraping action of the loader can contaminate<br />

the material with underlying soil, then the stockpile shall be rejected by the Engineer in charge.<br />

(iv)Materials shall not he stacked in locations liable to inundation or flooding.<br />

(v)The dimensions of the stockpiles and their location shall be approved by the Engineer in<br />

charge. Where the material is improperly stacked, the Engineer in charge shall direct complete re<br />

-stacking of the materials in an approved manner at the Contractor’s cost. (vi)Stone filler shall be<br />

supplied in a dry state in bags or other suitable containers approved by the Engineer in charge<br />

and shall be protected from the environment, so as to prevent deterioration in quality.<br />

514.4. Quality Control of Materials<br />

(i)The Engineer in charge shall exercise control over the quality of the materials so as to ascertain<br />

their conformity with the <strong>Specification</strong> requirements, by carrying out tests for the specified<br />

properties.<br />

(ii)Testing shall be to the following frequencies and the Engineer in charge may, at his discretion,<br />

direct these to be modified according to requirements:<br />

(a)Coarse and fine:<br />

(b)Stone filler:<br />

One test for each specified property per 50 m3 of stone aggregates.<br />

One test for each specified property for every five tonnes, subject<br />

to a minimum of one test for each consignment.<br />

(iii)Materials shall only be brought to site from a previously tested and approved source, and any<br />

materials not conforming to the requirements of the <strong>Specification</strong> shall be rejected by the<br />

Engineer in charge and removed from the work site.<br />

514.5. Measurement for Payment<br />

(i)Coarse and fine aggregates supplied to the site shall be paid for in cubic meters.
