<strong>MAN</strong> B&W<br />
Inlet Flow Meter<br />
A flow meter <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> installed to measure the net inlet<br />
gas flow. It <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> installed between the inlet pre�filter<br />
and the coalescing filter.<br />
High Pressure Gas Buffer System<br />
The high�pressure gas buffer c<strong>on</strong>s<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>ts of three<br />
pressure vessels c<strong>on</strong>nected between the compressor<br />
d<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>charge and the engine gas delivery<br />
system. Their purpose <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> to provide smoothing<br />
of minor gas pressure fluctuati<strong>on</strong>s in the fuel gas<br />
supply, because of the engine’s demand for low<br />
variati<strong>on</strong>s in fuel gas supply pressure.<br />
Thus, the high�pressure gas from the compressor<br />
package, <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> delivered at a steady flow to the <strong>MAN</strong><br />
B&W gas injecti<strong>on</strong> system.<br />
C<strong>on</strong>trol System<br />
A Compressor Package C<strong>on</strong>troller (CPC) carries<br />
out operati<strong>on</strong>al c<strong>on</strong>trol of the Flotech package.<br />
The CPC c<strong>on</strong>s<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>ts of a Programmable Logic C<strong>on</strong>troller<br />
(PLC), Unit Process C<strong>on</strong>troller (UPC) and<br />
an Operator Panel (OP), and <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> located separately<br />
from the compressor package skid.<br />
Normal start/stop operati<strong>on</strong>, safety protecti<strong>on</strong>,<br />
process m<strong>on</strong>itoring and fault annunciati<strong>on</strong> of the<br />
compressor package <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> carried out by the PLC.<br />
Both normal and out�of�limit c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s are observed<br />
by the PLC. Out�of�limit c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s will<br />
cause the PLC to activate either an alarm or a<br />
compressor package shutdown (trip).<br />
An Operator Panel (OP) in the c<strong>on</strong>trol cabinet door<br />
d<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>plays the current operating status of the PLC<br />
and allows the operator to view process readings,<br />
alarm and trip set�points, and to reset plant trips.<br />
The compressor <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> protected by a series of Pressure<br />
High, Pressure Low, Temperature High, Vibrati<strong>on</strong><br />
High, Liquid Level High/Low, Compressor RPM<br />
High/Low and Oil Low Flow trips, which will automatically<br />
shut down the compressor if fault c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s<br />
are detected by the local c<strong>on</strong>trol system.<br />

A Unit Process C<strong>on</strong>troller (UPC) regulates the<br />
dynamic capacity c<strong>on</strong>trol of the compressor by<br />
varying compressor speed, inlet gas pressure and<br />
recycle valve positi<strong>on</strong>. The capacity c<strong>on</strong>trol can<br />
be varied in the range of 0�100 %, while maxim<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>ing<br />
energy savings by the use of gas recycling<br />
and inlet gas pressure throttling c<strong>on</strong>trol.<br />
Gas Blow�down and Recovery System<br />
The gas blow�down and recovery system c<strong>on</strong>s<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>ts<br />
of a gas storage volume with pressure vessels<br />
c<strong>on</strong>nected together in a battery to form a<br />
high volume buffer. It <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> designed to minim<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>e the<br />
release of gas to atmosphere in the event of a<br />
compressor package shutdown or a requirement<br />
to de�pressur<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>e the engine supply lines. On compressor<br />
start, the gas previously recovered and<br />
stored in the blow�down system <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> re�c<strong>on</strong>sumed<br />
by the compressor. The PLC optim<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>es the<br />
use of th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> gas storage volume and prevents<br />
over�pressuring of the gas supply line by c<strong>on</strong>trol<br />
of the package inlet valve. The package inlet valve<br />
has an adjustable slow�opening functi<strong>on</strong>; th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
valve <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> opened after start up by the compressor,<br />
when the blow�down system has been evacuated<br />
to a preset pressure.<br />
