Engine C<strong>on</strong>trol System ME-GI<br />

The Engine C<strong>on</strong>trol System for the �GI engine <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

prepared for c<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>al remote c<strong>on</strong>trol, having<br />

an interface to the Bridge C<strong>on</strong>trol system and the<br />

Local Operating Panel (LOP).<br />

The LOP replaces the Engine Side C<strong>on</strong>trol of the<br />

MC engines.<br />

ME-GI Engine Operating Modes<br />

The Electr<strong>on</strong>ic C<strong>on</strong>trol System of the -GI engines<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> designed for applicati<strong>on</strong> of four different engine<br />

operating modes.<br />

What are operating modes?<br />

An operating mode <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> a complete set of engine<br />

parameters for: injecti<strong>on</strong> profile (NO x em<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>si<strong>on</strong> /<br />

SFOC optim<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>ati<strong>on</strong> and cross�over effects), injecti<strong>on</strong><br />

timing (Maximum cylinder pressure), exhaust<br />

valve opening (blow�back), exhaust valve closing<br />

(compressi<strong>on</strong> ratio), covering the complete engine<br />

load and speed ranges.<br />

These data are designed to fulfil the requirement<br />

of shipowner, yard, engine builder and engine designer.<br />

All -GI engines will be delivered with standard<br />

dual fuel operating mode and HFO operating<br />

mode set�up and <strong>on</strong>e opti<strong>on</strong>al mode:<br />

1) Dual Fuel Ec<strong>on</strong>omy Operating Mode,<br />

to Comply with IMO NO x em<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g>si<strong>on</strong> limitati<strong>on</strong>s,<br />

EoD 4 06 066.<br />

The dual fuel operating mode <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> designed to<br />

apply for an engine load above 30%. Above<br />

30% engine load, gas can be supplied to an<br />

engine as main fuel <strong>on</strong> top of a minimum of 5%<br />

pilot oil, which <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> necessary to c<strong>on</strong>trol the timing<br />

of the combusti<strong>on</strong>, Fig. 16.01.01.<br />

Between 30% and 110% load the operator can<br />

choose the ratio of fuel oil and gas, depending<br />

of <str<strong>on</strong>g>available</str<strong>on</strong>g> boil�off gas, Fig. 16.01.01.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>Th<str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g></str<strong>on</strong>g> operating mode <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> designed to give the<br />

best possible SFOC at all normal operating<br />

c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s, ensuring optimal operating ec<strong>on</strong>omy<br />

in the complete range between 60 to 100%<br />

engine load.<br />

A typical example for expected engine performance<br />

parameters <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> given in Fig.1.05.01,<br />

clearly indicating the high compressi<strong>on</strong> and<br />

maximum pressures in the high load range, ensuring<br />

optimal SFOC.<br />
