an extra cylinder, but another and cheaper soluti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> to reduce<br />

the electrical power producti<strong>on</strong> of the shaft generator<br />

when running in the upper propulsi<strong>on</strong> power range.<br />

power can be reduced from point M’ to point M as shown.<br />

Therefore, when running in the upper propulsi<strong>on</strong> power range,<br />

a diesel generator has to take over all or part of the electrical<br />

power producti<strong>on</strong>.<br />

However, such a situati<strong>on</strong> will seldom occur, as ships are<br />

rather infrequently running in the upper propulsi<strong>on</strong> power<br />

range.<br />

Point A, having the highest possible power, <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> then found at<br />

the inter<str<strong>on</strong>g>secti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> of line L 1 – L 3 with line 1 and the corresp<strong>on</strong>ding<br />

load diagram <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> drawn. Point M <str<strong>on</strong>g>is</str<strong>on</strong>g> found <strong>on</strong> line 7 at MP’s<br />

speed, and point O=A.<br />
